The Regional District of Mount Waddington is strongly committed to fostering the growth and sustainability of small businesses within their communities. By creating a supportive environment, we help small businesses thrive, which in turn boosts the local economy, creates jobs, and enhances the overall quality of life for residents. One of the primary ways the RDMW supports small businesses is through the development and implementation of policies that encourage entrepreneurship and innovation.

Our support includes participation in the Province’s Entrepreneur Immigration Program, WelcomeBC – Immigrate to BC, sponsoring a semi-annual North Island Economic Forum, partnering with Vancouver Island University and North Island College to promote and facilitate training programs, and operating a resident attraction program which can be found at My Vancouver Island North.

The economic forum offers entrepreneurs opportunities to connect with local, provincial, and federal representatives to help create a supportive and collaborative business ecosystem. This can lead to increased innovation, knowledge sharing, and partnerships that benefit the entire community.

In addition to these programs, we also play a vital role in creating a business-friendly environment by streamlining regulations and reducing bureaucratic red tape. The RDMW does not require businesses to obtain a license and tries to ensure that zoning laws and other regulations are conducive to the establishment and growth of small businesses.

In summary, the Regional District of Mount Waddington has a multifaceted role in supporting small businesses, from helping to navigating provincial and federal programs to investing in infrastructure and fostering a sense of community. By taking a proactive approach to supporting small businesses, we help create a thriving and resilient local economy.
