Bere Point Regional Park is owned by the Regional District of Mount Waddington and is located six kilometers from downtown Sointula. Signs will direct you from the ferry terminal. There are 30 campsites and a group tenting site nestled in the trees with the beach a stones throw away. You will see views of the Queen Charlotte Strait and the nearby snow-capped coastal mountains and occasionally you might see orca whales swimming by and maybe rubbing on the rocks at Bere Point. Catch the action from the whale watching platform.  Bere Point is also the start of the Beautiful Bay Trail.

The quaint Finnish Village of Sointula has plenty to offer: local arts and crafts, watercolors, homemade soaps, restaurants, library, moorage, the Co-op, dry goods, gas bar, Museum and ATM.  Finnish settlers came to the island in the early 1900’s naming the settlement “Sointula” which in Finnish means “harmony” and reflected the conscious decision of the homesteaders to live with such ideas as gender equality and contributions to community.

Reservation Notes

All reservations must be made a minimum of 24 hours in advance. If you arrive at Bere Point Regional Campsite without a reservation, please be prepared for the possibility that the campsite is full and you will need to seek alternate accommodations. For travellers with large, over-height, or over-length vehicles, BC Ferries offers an Experience card which may provide a fare discount.

• BC Ferries doesn’t have a terminal with parking in Sointula and the RDMW has prepared a quick guide
• When coming off the ferry in Sointula, please note there is a yield sign. Yield to on-coming traffic.
• When leaving, Ferry line up parking is on the right side of the road, facing north.
• Motorcycles line-up at the front of the line.
• Line-up within the while line on the side of the road.
• White angled line area is No parking.
• No parking on the dock in front of the gate for the ferry.
• No cutting in the line – Filling in what looks like empty spots.
• Do not block any driveways.
• Do not block any residents’ vehicles in, park in front or behind them.
• The line-up can be as far as the Cemetery, and you can still make it on.
• If lining up for the first ferry before the last ferry leaves at night, park starting at the second block. This is to leave space for the cars going on the last ferry, so they or the ferry doesn’t miss loading on the night ferry (it has happened before).
• There is a signal light for loading, it is to the left. It is normally red and will turn green when it’s time to load.
• Follow the vehicles loading until you are on the ferry, yield to on coming traffic

Campground Resources

There are two free picnic day use areas at Bere Point for public use. Outhouses are on-site but there is no potable running water, sewer or electrical service available at Bere Point campground.  Firewood may be available from on-site vendors while stocks last. From time to time there may be a fire ban imposed by Ministry of Forests, please be cautious and obey fire restrictions. The Beautiful Bay Trail can be accessed from the second day use parking area.
