Kwaksistah Regional Park

Kwaksistah Regional Campground is located on the outset of the Hamlet of Winter Harbour. This small campground with 8 sites is available free of charge, on a first come/ first served basis.

Things to Know:

Winter Harbour is approximately 1.5 hours on an active logging road from Port Hardy. You will need to travel with your lights on and be prepared to back up to a turnout if you meet a logging truck as “fat trucks” are still used on the North Island. These trucks span almost the entire width of the road, and have the right of way.

Winter Harbour is a small hamlet located on an inlet. It is a remote community and does not have standard amenities. There is a small post office/general store, but it will have limited supplies. Fuel may be available at the dock, but again, this is subject to change. If there is severe weather conditions, please be prepared for the road to be closed, especially in the event of heavy rain or snow. This campground is quite rustic and not suitable for tenting.

We ask all guests to comply with the following while staying at Kwaksistah:

• Limit your stay to 14 days.
• This campground is a “Leave No Trace” facility.
• Hunting:
  • Kwaksistah and hunting, please ensure that you field dress your animal where you dispatched it.
  • Please do not dress your animal in or near the campsite and ensure that all remains are contained in airtight containers and sealed.
• There are no services (water, sewer, electric) but the campsite does have outhouses, fire pits and picnic tables.
