Asbestos Handling

After consultation with WorkSafeBC and local roofing installers regarding waste generated from the replacement of roofs, the Regional District of Mount Waddington (RDMW) is now able to accept roofing waste as regular solid waste without the need of lab tests to verify the absence of asbestos.  The RDMW will continue to seek direction from WorkSafeBC regarding Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM) with the intent to protect worker health while maintaining accessibility of landfill services for the public.

Ocean Plastic Depot

The Ocean Legacy Foundation has opened an ocean plastic depot at the 7 Mile Landfill & Recycling Centre in Port McNeill, British Columbia. The depot will accept material from the shoreline, ocean, and industrial cleanup efforts, providing essential infrastructure to divert plastic resources from landfills and reduce ocean pollution.  The program forms part of Ocean Legacy Foundation’s national strategy in addressing plastic pollution by creating end-of-life solutions for abandoned, lost/discarded fishing gear and marine plastics, while developing the plastic circular economy. Local residents may drop off (up to) one pick up truck load of ocean plastics per week, free of charge.

For industry customers and organizations, fees up to $270 per tonne on smaller loads will apply (up to pickup load size, max one per day). For larger loads and regular drop-offs, arrangements with Ocean Legacy must be made in advance.
